Six Steps to Record a Great Educational VideoThey say a picture is worth a thousand words, and the truth is that a single video can convey what a thousand images cannot. There is no doubt that watching videos has become part of our daily lives, and the addiction to watching one video after another led to YouTube announcing on February 27, 2017, that its followers around the world spent a billion hours watching YouTube videos daily, a number that tripled from 2014 when daily views totaled 300 million hours, then rose to 500 million hours daily in 2015 and to a billion by early 2017.Educational channels, as well as channels that provide educational content in general, are among the most followed channels in the world. Therefore, many teachers are currently turning to utilize these available technologies to produce videos as one of the most important means of transferring knowledge in our time.In this article, we will outline the main steps that should be taken before producing any video.

Step One: Video TopicBefore starting the recording, it is essential to choose a suitable topic for your target audience. It is also advisable for the new video to align with the existing content of your channel. For example, if you are creating an educational series explaining certain skills, the topic must be consistent with the overall context of the channel. Some video presenters cover multiple topics within the same channel; that’s fine. You can do that and benefit from your entire target audience, but it is preferable to name the video with an appropriate title so that it helps the audience easily understand the content of the video. Finally, it should be noted that there is no good or bad topic; all topics are suitable as long as they align with the traditions of the target audience. If the purpose of presenting the video is commercial, it is essential to learn more about choosing suitable topics, the search terms that your target audience is looking up, similar videos, and many other criteria.Step Two: Writing the ScriptSome may be reluctant to write a precise script for the video, which may lead to losing focus during filming or forgetting to mention important information. It is always better to write a complete script for the video, progressing through the main points.

Step Three: Choosing a Location to Shoot the Video Choosing the right location for filming the video is one of the most important elements in video production. In fact, it is the primary means of communication between you and others, as the previous two steps are typically prepared before filming begins. In reality, selecting the appropriate location for filming is a step that involves a lot of detail, but we will simplify it here in the following way: you can use a real place for filming, such as an office, a meeting room, or even an outdoor location like a park or something similar. On the other hand, filming can use a green screen, or what is known as 'chroma,' which is common in video production and helps many in the beginning to edit backgrounds during the editing phase. While filming in real locations gives the videos a more vibrant impression, it does make the editing process later on more challenging, which is perhaps what drives many to opt for filming with chroma due to its numerous advantages, especially in terms of editing.

Step Four: Choosing the Right Tools for Video ShootingThe quality of the video ultimately depends on the choice of tools, the most important of which is the camera used for shooting and the audio capture device or "microphone". The technologies available today have made the process of shooting videos unprecedentedly easy; most smartphones come equipped with high-resolution built-in cameras. However, using professional cameras remains the best option for shooting videos, especially for the advanced settings they offer that can enhance video resolution and file size, among other settings that assist in producing a professional video.

After choosing the right camera, it's time for the microphone. No matter how high the quality of the video is, if there is a sound issue, even if minor, it will negatively affect the video overall, and the viewer may leave the video without finishing it.Tip: There are many types of microphones that can be used, differing in sound quality and clarity, as well as in price. Some of these types are the Road NTG3 and the Blue Yeti.

Step Five: Editing and Releasing the VideoThe video editing process, or "montage," is no less important than the previous steps, and its importance lies in the fact that it is directly responsible for the final appearance of the video. After finishing the video recording and before displaying it, we may need to modify some slides, adjust some colors, synchronize the sound with the image, add some sound effects to the events, and similar tasks. The ultimate goal of video editing is to add greater value to convey the intended message of the video to the viewer. Some of the best programs that assist in video montage include Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, and Blender for Windows, in addition to Final Cut for Mac operating systems.

Step Six: Sharing the Video with OthersAfter finishing editing the video, it's time to share it with others. There is no doubt that there are many websites currently available that facilitate the video-sharing process, and YouTube remains the best and most popular site for sharing videos with followers, especially for those who want to continuously produce videos and keep their audience informed about the latest videos they create. Not only can you share videos via YouTube, but you can also profit from them, especially if the videos achieve large viewership. Additionally, the YouTube platform offers several options that help control who has access to the videos, as you can share videos only with those you want, and they won't be public to any YouTube surfer.Another option is Google Drive, which allows you to upload videos there and share the link only with those you choose. The true advantage of Google Drive is its ease of access and use; you just need a Gmail account.Of course, there are many other options, such as most social media platforms that provide the feature of posting and sharing videos, like Facebook and Instagram.
